Minnesota Vikings Consider Adding Wide Receiver Depth

The Minnesota Vikings, led by head coach Kevin O'Connell, have been urged to consider adding more firepower to their wide receiver corps, with DeAndre Hopkins and Deebo Samuel being potential targets. Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings appeared to have made their final significant wide receiver addition with veteran Jauan Jennings this offseason, but Vikings Territory's Dustin Baker suggests they could still sign either Hopkins or Samuel. The Vikings have a strong 1-2 receiver combination with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and the addition of Jennings has strengthened their corps. But with Hopkins and Samuel being free agents, the Vikings could potentially get the best WR1-4 depth in the league with their addition. Hopkins, who turned 34 this month, had 22 receptions, 330 receiving yards, and two touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens during 2025, averaging 15 yards per catch. Samuel, who turned 30 in January, registered 72 catches for 727 receiving yards and five touchdowns last season with the Washington Commanders. The Vikings could opt for an embarrassment of riches at WR, enabling 'no excuses' for their quarterbacks, including Kyler Murray, in 2026. And with the league entering its quiet period before training camp, the Vikings have the opportunity to make a move. But the addition of Hopkins or Samuel would mean one fewer roster spot for one of their young receivers, such as Tai Felton or Dillon Bell. So the Vikings must weigh the benefits of adding a veteran receiver against the potential cost to their young players. The Vikings' offense, led by O'Connell, has the potential to be one of the most explosive in the league with the addition of Hopkins or Samuel. Hopkins has expressed his desire to play with Kyler Murray, and the Vikings could capitalize on this interest to strengthen their corps. With the NFL free agency period still open, the Vikings have the chance to make a move and bolster their wide receiver corps.
